Chocaholic? Sweet tooth? Ever wondered what it would be like to work as a chocolatier? We caught up with an East Lothian chocolateir to find out a little bit more about the role.

What does your company produce?

We produce a variety of chocolate bars, truffles and hot chocolate.

How long have you worked for your company?

Three and a half years.

Describe a tyipcal day in your role

A typical day involves coming in and turning the chocolate machines on. I’ll check the emails for any orders that have come in, inclduing internet orders. Then I produce bars for orders or for stock, and I check what else needs to be produced in all areas of the ktichen.

I also have to deal with all the different enquiries that come in, and I sometimes enter new customers onto our invoice system. I also have to send invoices out to customers.

What is the best bit about your job?

Producing chocolate is the best bit!

What is the biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge is dealing with busy periods and trying to supply lots of customers at one time.

What would you recommend to someone interested in becoming a chocolatier?

I would recommend trying to gain experience in a similar environment. Try to do as much research and courses as you can!
