Directors allocate time free of charge to form the BID Board, working to ensure that projects are delivered on time, to budget and to the benefit of BID Members and Partners

Louise Elder

Chair

Black & Gold is a premium cold-pressed rapeseed oil produced on the family farm in the heart of East Lothian. Championed by Michelin Star Chef Stuart Muir of Dine and Head Chef Robert Meldrum of Harvey Nichols Forth Floor it can been found in independent retailers throughout the country.

Passionate about her produce Louise believes that collaboration is the key to success and putting East Lothian on the world food map.

As Chair of the BID it is Louise’s responsibility to maintain momentum in delivering the Business Plan by securing commitment and investment from all stakeholders.

Vivienne Muir

Vice Chair

Vivienne is the CEO of NB Distillery, producing NB Gin along with other spirits. Vivienne is a qualified solicitor and has been in several legal and leadership roles in business over the last 10 years. Since launching NB Distillery in 2013, the company is now exporting to over 10 countries.

Passionate about high quality food and drink products Vivienne believes that in the first year, “The BID will create the essential foundations in both marketing and sales to build to deliver the vision of one of the world’s leading food and drink areas.”

Richard Baty

Company Secretary

Richard is the Business Development Manager at East Lothian Council and also the Manager and company secretary of East Lothian Investments Ltd and East Lothian Land Ltd. Previous to working for East Lothian Council Richard owned a hotel / restaurant which provides him with a perspective, from the consumer end, of the benefits of using local food and drink.

Robert Knops

Director

Robert, MD of Knops Beer Company, has a BSC (Hons) in Brewing & Distilling and has worked around the UK with some of the major brewers in roles in Production, Purchasing and Sales to gain that real hands on experience. Brewing refreshing and flavourful beers, Knops supply directly across the central belt, Fife and Borders. Also sending beer further afield through wholesalers and national retailers.

Robert believes that the BID provides the opportunity to expand the footprint of East Lothian producers in the UK and abroad.

Ali Gower

Director

Ali, co-founder at Chocolate Tree, a trail blazing chocolate company with a factory in East Lothian and shop in Edinburgh, works directly with premium cacao growers in Madagascar and South America, introducing fine flavour chocolate, exceptional ethics and provenance to high-end retailers both at home and abroad.

East Lothian has a fantastic selection of quality food producers and what it takes, by collaborating to overcome logistical challenges, to reach new and exciting markets with a demand for quality produce with great provenance. Ali believes we can go much further together than we would as individual businesses.

Simon Turner

Director

Simon is the Key Account Manager for PureMalt, an independent family business manufacturing a unique range of refined malt extracts for food and beverage industries in over 50 countries. Simon, previously, managed the Waterside Bistro in Haddington before moving to supplying the Scottish catering trade with John Gilmour Butchers.

Simon would like to see the BID developing business through targeted sales campaigns and the use of umbrella branding, he thinks we can seriously boost the profile of our county’s talented and committed producers in the UK and abroad.

Fiona Edgar

Director

Fiona is an experienced Business Growth Officer at East Lothian Council, Economic Development and Strategic investments, MBA Entrepreneurship, working with growing businesses in conjunction with Business Gateway and Scottish Enterprise. Fiona’s specialty area is developing East Lothian Food & Drink Initiatives since 2004 for food producers, manufacturers, hospitality business and promoting the East Lothian Food & Drink Brand.

With a background in the Catering and Hospitality sector, HND Hospitality management, 8 years working with food companies in management positions, owned and managed her own business, Fiona brings a wealth of experience to the BID.
